Common errors (Writing 3 class)

Dear everyone,

Here are the most popular errors in your writing papers. Hope that you won't make those errors again in your final exam.

1. Cause and effect essay: 
a. Lack of either cause or effect in the topic sentences and thesis statement.

Example:  Topic: what build your characters?
Topic sentence:    I am a tidy person. ------only the effect, no cause
----- I think i am a tidy person thanks to my parents' education. ( corrected)
b. mistake the characteristics / expression of the effects as the cause
Ex: I can keep calm when arguing with other people. ----keep calm: effect; when arguing: the situation in which the effect is expressed - not the cause
----- My  good ability to keep calm is the result of facing frequently with many arguments. (corrected)
c. Language: the way to use: make, lead to, thanks to, result in/ from ..... 

2. Comparison and contrast essay
a. In similarity paragraph, You only state the similaries without describing in details the 2 subject.
Ex: Descibe your hometown and a place you visisted.
People in QN are like people in my hometown. People in Qn are friendly.....
--- you should support this statement by examples of the people in two places.
b. Language: the structure of thesis statement

3. opinion essay
a. no counter-argument and refutation
b. general words such as: experience....
c. your point of view is not expressed clearly in the thesis statement.
d. Agree with both sides: not good
e. your details don't support your topic well

4. Narrative essay
a. The point or lesson underlying the stories doesn't suit the content of the story
b. No point or lesson

Regulations (Writing 4 class - 1010 - 10110)

Dear everyone,

Followings are some of my instructions for us to work effectively on the blogs.

I. Here are the regulations for using blogs in my Writing classes .

1. Your blogs here are open to the obsevation, and evaluation of your writing teacher (me) and all of your classmates (in the same list).
2. No personal or out- of -topic content is allowed.
3. Be polite when you comment your own or others' blogs' writings. (no swear words....)

II. Here is the way we work online (on blogs)

1. Learners' responsibilities

- Every week each of you has to post your writing assignments on your own blog at the due time.
- Read the writings on your classmates' blogs and give comments on their papers. (bonus is based on the number and quality of your comments)
- Correct or revise your previous papers which have been commented and marked by me.

2. Teacher's responsibilities
- read, comment and mark learners' writing papers on their blogs every week.
- check students' previous paper for their revision and correction.
- Evaluate the learners' comments

MONDAY CLASS:
Deadline for your weekly posts (writing assignments): 3:00(p.m) every Sunday.
TUESDAY CLASS:
Deadline for your weekly posts (writing assignments): 12:00(p.m) every Sunday.

- Vocabulary :

6 grades (levels) :

 A+ (outstanding: 9-10); A (good  7.5- 8.5) ;  B(fair 6.5-7) ; 

C (average: 4.5- 6) ; D (poor :3-4) ;  E ( too poor: 1-2.5)

A+ : Outstanding (91 - 100%); A: Excellent (80 -90%),
